"A monstrous mash-up of Ian Dury and Lemmy"
by Mike Richardson, Head Editor
Having previously seen Wolvves hectic live set I was excited to hear how they sound in the studio. This band of youngsters from the Harrow / Watford area haven't been together long and are fast becoming known as one of THE bands to go see in the local area.It took a fair few listens for me to get into the EP but it is definitely a grower. Their sound is almost impossible pigeonhole, with elements of grunge, punk, straight rock and funk along with smatterings of metal and some of the jazziest soloing I've heard in a long time. Vocally the only way I can think to describe frontman Jack Agnew is like a monstrous mash-up of Ian Dury and Lemmy from Motorhead. Different but also strangely likeable.
For a self-released EP the songs are reasonably well produced and listening to it is fairly enjoyable. The only suggestion I could make for improvement is that sometimes less is more. Trying to cram such a myriad of styles into each and every song makes some of them seem a little disjointed. Stand out tracks for me were Blood on My Tissue and AAHAHAHG for just this reason - they seemed a little more coherent than some of the other tracks, something that will improve as the band grow into each other I'm sure.
