"Eclectic would certainly be a word that springs to mind"
by Robyn Lees, Writer & Editor
What can I say about HashTag Alice? Eclectic would certainly be a word that springs to mind but not in a bad context. Most tracks kick off with gripping intros and dive straight into strong guitar work that demonstrates quite a high potential. Combine this with some firm drumming that merges well with the guitar and bass work and you have quite an influential album.Breaking down each track, the guitarist demonstrates an ability to play different styles well. The vocals work surprisingly well considering that she is a female vocalist with what is essentially fairly heavy rock during parts of the album. However, her vocals can sometimes be a little simpering and can be hidden a little by the music especially on the choruses. Part of this may be due to the fact that there is a heavier style than you would expect from a female vocalist; they are, at times, not strong enough to suit the style of music. In spite of this, all elements do seem to merge well together to portray a lot of energy and spirit that clearly shows that HashTag Alice are passionate about their music.
The theme flows well throughout the entire album despite a drop in heaviness half-way through.
All in all, "It Is What It Is" is certainly an appropriate name; HashTag Alice have the ability to conjure up something unique and appealing.
