"This is just grunge-punk at it's best"
by Mike Richardson, Head Editor
Hailing from a quiet, sleepy town on the outskirts of the picturesque Peak District in the UK, Grim Dylan are stiring things up across the globe and putting the "Grrrrrr" back into Girl Punk. Their three track debut EP "Holy Sh*t it's.. Grim Dylan!!" is a gleaming example of the dirtiest, grungiest type of punk you're likely to find; like the bastard child of early Hole and Green Day it's packed to the brim full of hooks, energy and angst. These three girls know how to write, how to play and how to get you snared into their sound. To call them girl punk is probably something of a disservice; this is just grunge-punk at it's best and gender is neither here nor there. Opener "I'd Like A Moat Too (Cuts)" is a gritty tale of cuts and the consequences for those that suffer then while the second track "You're Not" brings to mind some of the best tracks L7 ever kicked out as it the band opines about people pretending to be something they're not. . Finishing off with "Escape", Grim Dylan show that they're not just three-chord-ponies, adding light and shade to the proceedings to produce another engaging piece of dirty rock.
Being an independent EP the production isn't always 100%, but in some ways that adds to the raw energy of the whole package. If you like your music edgy and grungy this short but sweet debut is well worth spending a few quid on.
