Review: "Forgotten Songs" by Capital Sun

"A carefully crafted first offering of which Birmingham should be proud"

by Keely Anne Hill, Writer & Editor

Four piece acoustic-rockers Capital Sun must be doing something right. With an already impressive CV that includes supporting the likes of The Enemy and The View, these lads are certainly on track to something special.

Formed just over a year ago, Capital Sun already have a strong social media presence and a healthy following, which will stand them in good stead for the future.

With influences such as The Doors, Super Tramp, Iggy Pop, The Byrds and many other late 60's early 70's bands, their debut single, Forgotten Songs, could easily fit into a set of this genre and hold its own.

The single opens with a toe tapping beat. Don't be deceived by Capital Sun's influences, their lyrics are frightfully current and keenly observant, with their musings often something we can all emphasise with.

With a radio-worthy mix, Forgotten Songs is a carefully crafted first offering of which Birmingham should be proud. Luke Western's bass part particularly stands out, giving the song a steady perpetuating drive, and seems to knit Chris Taylor's drums and the guitar parts of Andy Smith and vocalist Glen Boden perfectly.

Catch the boys at their single launch party on Friday, January 28, 2011 or at one of their various gigs around the Midlands. And if nothing more, remember their name, as I'm sure you'll stumble across it again sooner or later.

Forgotten Songs - Capital Sun, debut single, released January 28th 2012.
