After a letter to Sainsbury's from a three-year-old girl went viral the supermarket giant has reluctantly decided to rebrand it's Tiger bread. Lily Robinson wrote to the chain in May 2011 pointing out that their Tiger bread looked more like a Giraffe. Lily's letter said: "Why is tiger bread called tiger bread? It should be called giraffe bread. Love from Lily Robinson age 3 and 1/2".
In response to her letter Chris King from Sainsbury's customer services team replied saying She received a letter back saying that "I think renaming tiger bread giraffe bread is a brilliant idea - it looks much more like the blotches on a giraffe than the stripes on a tiger, doesn't it?".
A £3 Sainsbury's gift card was included with the letter aswell as a final response from Chris explaining how the bread first got it's name "It is called tiger bread because the first baker who made it a looong time ago thought it looked stripey like a tiger. Maybe they were a bit silly.".
After Lily's mother posted the letters on her blog it became a trending topic on social media sites such as Facebook and Twitter. Since the increased interest in Lily's plight Sainsbury's has now given in to public demand and renamed the bread Giraffe bread.
"In response to overwhelming customer feedback that our tiger bread has more resemblance to a giraffe, from today we will be changing our tiger bread to giraffe bread and seeing how that goes," the supermarket said.
