In Russia Sony had to produce almost half a million games in order to keep up with demand.
The Playstation 3 was released in November 2006 and to date, over 52 million consoles have been sold, their best selling game to date is "Call of Duty: Black Ops".
Managing Director of Sony Computer Entertainment in Australia said "We're definitely coming back into stock in a big way for our Christmas push and I feel the PlayStation format has now definitely taken centre stage.
The awareness of what PS3 does is very satisfying. Now store staff and consumers are starting to use PS3 in all of its glory with digital downloads, Music Unlimited, the movie service, catch-up TV."
But could this all just be the pre-christmas rush while prices are low, or will Sony see a dip in sales as we get closer to the Christmas season.
The Playstation 3 has sadly never lived up to its predecessors, the original Playstation which was launched in December 1994 has sold over 102 million units, and the Playstation 2 which was launched in March 2000 has sold over 154 million units, making the Playstation 2 the best-selling console of all time.
