Rolling Stone publish the Worst Songs Of The 1990's

Taking first place was Aqua's "Barbie Girl"

Rolling Stone magazine have published their list of the top 10 worst songs of the 1990's as voted by their readers. Taking first place was Aqua's "Barbie Girl", Los Del Rio took 2nd place with "Macarena" and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus took 3rd position with "Achy Breaky Heart".

"Barbie Girl" was released by the Danish-Norwegian dance-pop group Aqua in 1997 and sparked a number 1 hit for the group in 11 countries, selling over 8 million copies worldwide and spawning a 3x Platinum award in Australia and Sweden, a 2x Platinum award in the UK and a 1x Platinum award in Austria, Germany and Switzerland. It even hit number 7 in the US Billboard Hot 100.

Upon its release, Mattel the makers of the Barbie Doll slammed the track "Barbie Girl" by Aqua claiming it presented Barbie in an overly sexual way, they went on to take out a lawsuit against the Danish-Norwegian group, this was swiftly dropped in 2009 by Mattel.
