Following the Stone Roses announcement last month of a reunion tour Shane Meadows has revealed plans for a tribute film.38-year-old Shane Meadows, a Bafta-winning director aims to make amends for missing the Stone Roses most legendary gig when he was a teenager. In 1989 Shane missed the famous Spike Island gig as he had a "bad acid trip". Hoping that his film will help him overcome his teenage disappointment Shane is desperate to document his heroes' comeback tour and has even put other projects on hold including a biopic about legendary British cycle champ Tommy Simpson.
Speaking about the Stone Roses project for the first time at his 'This Is England '88' preview screening Shane revealed that he was "in talks" with the Manchester band who split in 1996.
"I wouldn't have cared if they'd come and smacked me with a sandwich, I just wanted to be there and I missed it, so this is be going back to Spike Island but at about 40 and with no hair."
"It's one of those things which come up rarely in life, when you go, 'Apart from my family needing me, that's going to happen. If they want me to do it and it comes off I'm doing that'," he said.
Shane has plans for the Stone Roses music to feature in a possible sequel to his 'This Is England '88' project. In a future 1990 instalment the This Is England gang will get into the Nineties rave scene heavily featuring the Stone Roses music which contributed greatly to the era.
