Is Rock Music Dead? Well not quite, but Pop music certainly put it in its place in 2011 after the sale of Rock Music slipped behind Pop Music for the first time in 7 years. In 2011, 7 of the top 10 best selling albums were classed as Pop music and with huge sales from artists such as Adele, Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars, Pop music accounted for around 34% of total music sales, beating off Rock music which only accounted for around 29% of total music sales.
London born Adele come out top in 2011, with her album "21" taking 1st place and her album "19" taking 4th place in the top 10 best selling albums of 2011, combined, she has sold a total of around 23.5 million copies worldwide, her album "21" has also become the best selling album of the 21st century.
