Oscar-winning actor Cliff Robertson dies aged 88

Most recently been known for his role as Uncle Ben in the Spider-Man trilogy

Oscar-winning actor Cliff Robertson has died aged 88 years old, he passed away in Long Island, New York one day after his 88th Birthday according to his secretary of 53 years Evelyn Christel.

Robertson has most recently been known for his role as Uncle Ben Parker in the Spider-Man trilogy.

Robertson was born on the 9th of September 1923 in La Jolla, California, and over the years has taken on many successful roles in films such as "Escape from L.A.", "Out of Season", "The Naked and the Dead", "Midway", "Three Days of the Condor" and he even picked up an Academy Award for the 1968 film "Charly" for his role playing a mentally challenged bakery janitor.

Robertson became most famous when he played a young "Lt. John F. Kennedy" in the 1963 film "PT 109".
