9.9 Million tuned in to watch the celebrities strut their stuff on the dance floor which was a staggering 2.4 million more than the X Factor viewings which came in at 7.5 million.
Once Strictly had finished, the X Factor ratings shot up to 11.3 million viewers, meaning they most probably preferred the BBC One programme.
Lowly rated boy band Nu Vibe were sent packing whilst Daybreak presenter Dan Lobb left Strictly.
More than half of the people watching switched over from ITV's X Factor after Kitty had sung her version of Its Oh So Quiet. For the last 15 minutes of the show only 5.5 million viewers stayed tuned in. Worrying times for the show's producers?
An ITV spokesman said: "The X Factor continued to be the UK's most-watched entertainment show and ITV1 was the most popular channel across peak time."
So what do you reckon? Is X Factor losing its edge? Has it run it's time? Do you think its lived it's life and it's time for a change?
A BBC spokesman said the corporation was "delighted" with the viewing figures for Strictly, "It is great that more and more viewers keep tuning in to enjoy what is turning out to be a fantastic series," he added.
