Earlier this year Alcon Entertainment purchased the rights to the "Blade Runner" franchise, but it came with a clause which prohibited them from simply remaking the original movie.
Ridley Scott is also rumoured to be producing the movie along side Alcon Entertainment partners Broderick Johnson and Andrew Kosove.
Not much is yet known about the movie, but he did confirm that none of the cast members from the 1969 movie will be in it.
In an interview with The Wall Street Journal, Ridley Scott said "I think I'm close to finding a writer that might be able to help me deliver" but "We're quite a long way in, actually".
The original Blade Runner was a Science Fiction movie released on the 25th June 1982 and staring Harrison Ford, Rutger Hauer, Sean Young, Edward James Olmos and Daryl Hannah.
Costing $28 million to make, it suffered a rather poor box office performance, taking only $33 million, although it had stiff competition at the time, from blockbuster movie "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial".
