Internet search giant Google are planning on launching a home entertainment system later this year which will allow music to be played wirelessly on other devices around the home, it's expected that smartphones running the "Google" Andriod OS will be able to remotely control the music. The launch of this type of product would certainly be a blow for rivals such as Apple, Samsung and Sony who already offer a music streaming service, and Google are likely to try and undercut those rivals.
Google will also be going up against music streaming company Sonos, who already produce a home based music streaming device and who reported an estimated 2012 revenue of $200 Million, a small slice of the wireless streaming market that is estimated to be worth around $8 Billion a year, and this number is expected to massively increase over the coming years.
In May last year at Google's I/O Conference at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, Joe Britt, Google's Director of Engineering showed off a "home hub" device named "Project Tungsten", which is powered by the "Google" Andriod OS. Joe Britt said "A Tungsten device runs the Android OS and the Android at Home software framework. It's always powered on and always connected to the cloud".
We look forward to seeing what Google have planned.
