Cesaria Evora passes away aged 70

Performing without her shoes gained her the nickname "Barefoot Diva"

Portuguese musician Cesaria Evora passed away on Saturday night aged 70 at the Baptista de Sousa Hospital in Mindelo, which is on the island of Sao Vicente in Cape Verde, the place where she was also born.

In 1988 Cesaria gained international success when her debut album "La Diva Aux Pieds Nus", her follow up 1992 album "Miss Perfumado" went on to sell over 300,000 copies worldwide.

Often compared to American Jazz Singer Billie Holiday, she was well known for performing without her shoes and gained the nickname "Barefoot Diva", in 2004 she won a Grammy for her album "Voz d'Amor".

Cesaria retired in September due to health reasons, she was known as a heavy smoker, and in 2005 she was diagnosed with heart problems, she suffered a stroke in 2008 and 2011 and underwent open-heart surgery last year.

Cesaria Evora was loved by millions and will be sadly missed, everyone at Fit4Talent sends their prayers to her family and fans.
