Musician Taylor Swift and actors Mia Farrow, Patrick Dempsey and Kirsten Dunst are famous owners of the Scottish Fold cat, and Taylor Swift has even been seen Tweeting photos of her beloved pet on Twitter. Katy Perry is said to be considering buying a Scottish Fold after seeing photos of Taylor Swift's cat.
Due to a cats litter only normally having 1 kitten with a true folded ear, and the Scottish Folds' unable to breed with each other (not without having severe genetic mutation) they demand up to a £1,000 price-tag.
Rafal Majek a Scottish Fold breeder based in Glasgow, Scotland said "We can't produce as many as we would like".
So why are they so popular? Well Majek says "Once you've had a Scottish Fold, you will never have another cat breed. Everyone falls in love with them because they're such lovely, friendly cats"
The original Scottish Fold was a white barn cat called Susie who lived at a farm in Perthshire, Scotland in 1961. Because of a natural dominant gene mutation, the ear cartilage has a fold which causes the ears to bend forward and down, giving them what is described as an "owl-like" appearance.
