The live, yearly, fund raising show kicked off with former newsreader Angela Rippon preforming a re-enactment of the dance routine she preformed in 1976 with Eric Morecambe and Ernie Wise. BBC newsreaders Sian Williams, Sophie Raworth, Susanna Reid and Emily Maitlis joined Angela in the dance.
Matt Baker, co-presenter of the One Show, finished his 500-mile rickshaw ride from Edinburgh to London's BBC tower just before the Children in Need show started at 7.10pm. Raising more than £1.2 Million for the charity Matt described his gruelling ride as an "extraordinary" experience. Baker began the challenge on the 11th of November cycling for up to 10 hours a day as people chased after him to give donations.
Children in Need holds it's charity telethon yearly aiming to raise as much money as possible to help support children's charities across the country. Donations are raised many ways and through many different medias with a record £2,032,642 being raised this year by the BBC Radio 2 listeners over £300,000 more than last year.
'The Collective', a supergroup comprising of many music artists including Gary Barlow, Ed Sheeran, Tinchy Stryder, Chipmunk, Ms Dynamite, Tulisa, Wretch 32, Rizzle Kicks, Mz Bratt, Dot Rotten and Labrinth, took to the stage to preform the Children in Need single, Teardrop live.
Terry Wogan was joined this year by Tess Daly, Alesha Dixon and Fearne Cotton throughout the night to host the live show. They presented many fund raising acts and performances during the 6hr appeal including the cast of Eastenders who performed a medley of hits by Queen, on the set of the popular soap. The show also saw Lord Sugar enter the Dragon's Den and the presenter of many fashion shows, Gok Wan, sing.
Family favourite the, comedy series, Outnumbered saw the child stars preform "Hey Hey We're the Monkees" and also the Muppets preformed an all-star version of the classic "Mah Na Mah Na" song.
