The album "Nevermind", which is often hailed as one of the top 10 greatest albums of all time, was the bands first album release by DGC Records.
Initially with low commercial expectations, the album became a huge success mainly due to the popularity of its first single "Smells Like Teen Spirit" and in 1992 it had beaten off Michael Jackson's album "Dangerous", taking the number 1 spot on the Billboard charts.
To date the album has sold over 30 million copies worldwide and is responsible for bringing alternative rock to a large mainstream audience.
Nirvana formed in Aberdeen, Washington in 1985 by front-man, songwriter and lead guitarist Kurt Donald Cobain and bassist Krist Novoselic, over the years the band went through 5 different drummers, with the now "Foo Fighters" front-man Dave Grohl becoming the 6th (and final) drummer in the band.
Sadly the band ended in 1994 after Kurt Cobain was discovered dead on the 8th April 1994 at his home in Lake Washington by an electrician who had arrived to install a security system at his home. His death sent a shockwave through the music scene and was a sad day for millions of people, most believe it put an everlasting dent in the grunge and rock scene.
Love them or loathe them (or never heard of them), no one can deny that Nirvana played a huge part in shaping the music we now listen to, so join Fit4Talent in celebrating 20 years since the release of "Nevermind" with a collection of some of the classic tracks from the album below.
